Superbrass in Watford

Last Sunday, a concert featuring Superbrass will go down as one of the most unbelievable concerts I have had the pleasure of being involved in.  Put on in conjunction with Hertfordshire Music Service and Watford Boys Grammar School, Roger Argente’s Superbrass played music from there debut CD Under the Spell of Spain.  It is not the first time I have had the pleasure of sitting next to Andy Wood, and still he continues to raise the bar, improvising with such finesse I would have thought it studio trickery had I not heard it live!  Being downwind from a trumpet section of Mike Lovatt, Paul Benniston, Paul Mayes and Tom Watson, with Martin Owen on horn, Chris Houlding, Roger Argente and Kevin Morgan completing the low brass, all whipped into a frenzy by Matt Senior on drums and Mick Doran on Percussion, was simply monumental!  Given that my Stag-Do was the day before I feared the worst for my own part, but world-class playing on every seat ensured their was a confidence and belief that nothing could go wrong and fuelled every player with the desire to really give the audience something special!  Roger Argente, Stephen Hussey, and John Malcolm take a bow….a fantastic day.

For those few of you who are not familiar with Andy Wood, enjoy…
